Characters: Sam and Priya — two office colleagues working in the statistics department.
Sam: Did you hear the boss wants the jobs report to sound more “optimistic”?
Priya: Optimistic how — full of confetti and marching bands?
Sam: No, just a little name change: "unemployed" becomes "temporarily exploring career options."
Priya: That will look great on the chart — a nice upward squiggle.
Sam: They also asked if we could round every number to the nearest "good news."
Priya: I suggested adding a new column called "Feelings about the Economy."
Sam: They liked it so much they put it on the executive summary.
Priya: Now the graph has smiley faces and a sunshine icon for GDP.
Sam: At least people will be happy — even if their wallets aren't.
Priya: True — but happiness is easier to measure with a coffee break survey.
